Friday Flowers

The New Year begins at midnight tomorrow......where did 2011 go?!!
I love the start of the New Year, it's like a clean slate, 365 days of possibilities a whole year stretching in front of me, plans, dreams and who knows what.
It makes me want to take down the Christmas decorations, rearrange the furniture, decorate and give the house a new look for a new year.

For now I'll share my Christmas flowers with you a mixture of greenery, white Amarylis, green Chrysanthemums, Pussy Willow and Eucalyptus all combined in a festive bunch, these should last well into the New Year.

Have a wonderful weekend, if you are celebrating New Years Eve have lots of fun, I'm looking forward to the fireworks!
I'd like to wish you all a Happy and Healthy 2012.

Friday Flowers

Striped Amarylis, the blooms look like they are made of faded red corduroy, soft and velvety.

I'd love a dressing gown made in fabric like this, how snuggly would that be?

Have a cosy weekend

Friday Flowers and a Highland Hotel

At first I thought this was some sort of Euphorbia, but on reflection it could be a member of the Protea family....the florist didn't know.......recognise it anyone?

Anyway the silvery heads went so beautifully with the mercury glass acorn that they had to go together, then the studded ball fitted so well in the tarnished silver dish.

This is where the hotel comes in. On the dish (that I bought recently at a fleamarket) is the name Gairloch Hotel. I googled the name and found a picture of the hotel, situated on the banks of Loch Gairloch on the west coast of the highlands of Scotland.

Lovely isn't it? And years ago perhaps ice cream was served to a guest in this very dish. Maybe I should take it on a visit home!
Have a lovely weekend

Friday Flowers

Earlier this week I bought some blue hyacinths just coming into bud, they were planted in small plastic pots which fitted perfectly inside this old Willow Pattern serving dish. I didn't want to replant them in the dish as it has no drainage holes.
But what to use to cover the tops of the ugly plastic pots......Moss, came the answer.......but I don't have any......but the lawn has lots!
So armed with a rake I raided the lawn of some of its moss, If you can see the odd bit of grass you know the reason why!
The Moss camouflaged the tops of  the pots perfectly and to add a touch of Christmas sparkle I added small mercury glass ornaments that I bought last week.

In the warmth of the house the flowers are already opening, filling the room with their heady scent.

Have a lovely weekend
