Friday Flowers

Friday flowers this week are Astrantia and Feverfew picked from the garden and popped into a little vintage galvanised watering can. The chair it is sitting on is what I bought at the Salvo Fair last Saturday.

I've been looking for a chair like this for ages, but didn't want to pay the prices they were asking at antiques fairs. This little white chippy painted chair came all the way from Belgium so I could take it home.
The Salvo Fair was amazing, so many things to buy, to want even if you didn't need them..........actually that doesn't usually stop me but the thought of the long walk back to the car carrying something heavy, did. If you were looking for original features for restoring your period home it was like an Aladdin's cave.

This weekend I have a miniatures workshop in Kent on Sunday, then on Monday it is the start of Hampton Court Flower Show, I'm lucky enough to have a press pass for 3 days, if not so lucky with the 4.30am starts! Hopefully I'll share a taste of it next week.

Have a lovely weekend

Friday Flowers

Sprays of Rambling Roses from the garden matched exactly the tea towel I bought at Chelsea Flower Show........yes I shopped as well as taking photographs!
The roses with the tea towel, some small faded pink terracotta pots and garden string all added up to my favourite things......does that remind you of a song?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and the weather is fine, I'm going to an Architectural Salvage Fair this Saturday......exciting!!

Friday Flowers at Sunset

We arrived back home from holiday on Wednesday to a beautiful sunny day. Several loads of washing later I was taking everything off the line in the garden and was struck by the beauty of the light as the sun went down. I hope I captured just a taste of it.

Have a lovely weekend.

Friday Flowers

Chelsea 2. Artisan Retreats.

I've realised looking through all my photographs that I haven't any pictures of the outsides of these delightful summerhouses........too busy taking photographs of the details!
Set in a small clearing surrounded by trees were 5 summerhouses each decorated and furnished by a different designer to reflect their personal taste.

A Passementerie Passion.
Designed by Annabel Lewis from V.V. Rouleau, her shops sell the most exquisite trimmings and ribbons. Her retreat contained precious samples from her personal collection, and outside two benches covered in striped grosgrain ribbon........inspired.

Vintage Inspired Retreat.
Designed by Orla Kiely, a vintage inspired retreat featuring her graphic designs on pots, bags and garden tools. Inside was pure 1950's including the television........delightful.

A Bookbinder's Workshop.
Designed by Vicki Conran wife of Sir Terence Conran, this was a calm ordered space designed as a bookbinder's studio.........if only my workspace looked like this!

Needlepoint Haven.
Designed by Kaffe Fasset, needlepoint and knitwear designer, fabric designer and painter........his sense of colour and pattern is amazing.......colour in his hands sings a glorious song.

Wild at Heart at Home.
Designed by Nicky Tibbles, floral designer with shops in London. The window boxes were amazing.......cut flowers I'm sure, and a flat design with hundreds of flower heads was stunning.

And last of all a vase of Chelsea Friday Flowers

I hope you've enjoyed this glimpse of Chelsea Flower Show, have a wonderful weekend.

Friday Flowers

Chelsea Day 1

My visits began on Sunday morning, the last of the build up days. The final tweaks were being done on the big gardens, more serious work on some of the floral displays. Vans were everywhere, trolleys full of plants, diggers, men in hi-vis jackets (actually everyone in hi-vis jackets) and amongst all the chaos television crews and photographers vying to get their first shots of the show. And a lone artist capturing the scene on canvas.

I just stood back and drank in the scene.

Chelsea Day 2

Monday started at 4.30am, up, dressed and a 35 minute drive into London on suprisingly busy roads.
And then the privilege of seeing Chelsea Flower Show in the early morning light, hearing the birds sing and feeling a sense of urgency and purpose knowing that in a few hours time the place would be crowded with celebrities and the press.
Where to go? What to photograph? If you were expecting big views of the show gardens I'm sorry to disappoint, I'm used to being indoors photographing carefully arranged scenes.......this was all "too big" if you know what I mean?
Instead I decided to search out small details, still lifes that I could capture whilst growing in confidence and getting to know my camera. So I went to the side stall selling decorative items for garden and home and found little treasures to photograph and lost several hours just wandering around taking pictures of anything that caught my eye.

And then I found my Shangri-La, tucked away from the show gardens in a shady tree edged setting, where I could have lived happily given a bed and my own private bathroom! With coffee and cake stall just a step away, somewhere to eat lunch and enjoy the scene.......pure heaven. More next week on my favourite corner.

Before I go, there were Union Jacks and Jubilee themes everywhere, so here are a few pictures to put you in the mood for this weekend's celebrations. I couldn't resist the car! I had exactly this model as my very first car, it was old when I had it, but I loved it and wish I still had it today.

Have a wonderful weekend.
