The Blue Velvet Case

This was the very first thing I found on my treasure hunting trip on Sunday. A trip that involved three antiques fairs in three different counties!
A missing catch, threadbare and worn but what a beauty it must have been when new. There are glimpses of the lusciuos blue velvet that cover the lid and sides and the intricate handle must once have been shiny and bright.

The interior is fitted for a manicure set and lined in a lovely blue satin, a small mirror set in its padded lid.

As is often the way of things, after finding this delightful case, blue turned up in the stones of paste brooches, silver medals reflecting the colour of the handle.

Then cream mother of pearl came into the picture by way of buttons a necklace and a rosary, complemented by an old brass watch case and the surround of a pretty swan brooch.

Funny how one thing leads to another, and in the end I was very happy with my day's treasure.
