Friday Flowers

Some might call it an obsession....I can't help it, it's a new love, all consuming and I can't resist..........vintage terracotta pots! Not big pots, small 2,3,4 or 5inch pots I like them best with limey water marks on their little clay bodies.

I don't mind their cracks and their imperfections, they only add to their charm.

Sometimes you find a makers fingerprint others like this one below have the impression of the knot in a piece of wood where they have been left to dry. Plants look happier in them, look at this sweet pansy.....what a happy velvet face!

I hope you all have a very happy weekend......me, I'm looking for more pots!

Friday Flowers

3 Sundays ago I went to another marvellous Martin and the Magpie workshop. Last time it was to recreate a Dutch Still Life, this time was a Vintage Spring Planting Party. We were to take along our own vintage containers to fill with bulbs, fresh flowers and plants all topped off with moss.

After an informative and fun demonstration by Martin we were let loose on a table of ingredients for our containers.......oh what fun we had. My cream 1930s container had been found in a charity shop just the day before and I filled it with a gold edged primula, tete a tete daffodil bulbs, twisted willow stems and fresh flowers that looked just like yellow drumsticks.......and I can't remember their name!

Any gaps between the plants were covered in moss......the daffodils have just finished flowering 3 weeks later.
We also learnt that bulbs have everything they need to survive and flower contained in the bulb itself, the roots really only used as anchors in the soil. So it is possible to remove most of the soil and the roots and cram them in really tiny containers. Moss dampened regularly gives them enough moisture. To prove the point miniature Iris bulbs were stuffed into these small showjumping cups. And they bloomed beautifully!!

So not only did we have a lovely afternoon with bulbs, moss and flowers but there were a wonderful assortment of cakes for tea.
I've booked onto another two courses........I can't wait, and promise to share the results.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend

Friday Flowers

Have you ever seen anything like this before?
I couldn't believe my eyes, at first I thought they were paper, the lines drawn on with blue ink, but no they are real, extraordinary, beautiful and real.

Did I buy this polyanthus at a specialist nursery or garden centre? No! At the last antiques market I visited! I can't tell you what antiques the gentleman had on his table.......I only had eyes for the plants.
You know I love blue and white.........this must be my perfect flower!

I hope your weekend brings you something delightful.

Friday Flowers

I don't know why but these beautiful stripey Tulips reminded me of Paris. Perhaps it was just the scent of Spring in the air and the thought of drinking coffee in a pavement cafe that took me to that lovely city. And the sheet of wrapping paper with the Eiffel Tower from my favourite greetings card shop that confirmed the feeling.
So I put the two together and we have Spring in Paris...........well I can dream!!!!!

Have a lovely weekend, I'll be dreaming of Paris!!

Friday Flowers

It was a beautiful Spring day yesterday, started all foggy and dull, the sort of weather that turns your hair into frizz! well it does mine. But before too long the sun was out and it really felt warm and well ....Spring like!
The Daffodils are out now on the grass verges, those first bright yellow flowers a real treat to the eye.

So here are some pots of Tete a Tete Daffodils photographed against my shed which badly needs a paint. I mixed the colour from odds and ends of paint I had left over from other projects and I know I'll never match it. Such a nuisance because I really like the colour and the weathered look, but if I don't paint it this year it might well fall to bits!

I hope it's feeling like spring where you are, have a lovely weekend
