Friday Flowers at Chelsea Flower Show

Part Two.

This year much to my delight the R.H.S. had repeated the Artisan's Summerhouses.

Designers were given a summerhouse to decorate and to make into their space, the first is by Cath Kidson....I usually find her things a bit too sweet, but I loved the interior of her summerhouse. It must have been all those paper roses that struck a chord with me, only I make them in miniature!

The outside was painted in her signature blue even the lawnmower and the grass were painted with her designs.

Inside was paper rose making heaven, a profusion of colour, paper and mood boards........delightful.

Friday Flowers at Chelsea Flower Show

Part One.

A year since the last Chelsea Flower Show! Last year was such a new and exciting experience for me, I was worried that this year wouldn't feel the same.....but it did!
The anticipation of seeing the finished gardens, the hustle and bustle of last minute frantic activity, and that magical time at 6.00am in the morning when all you can hear are the birds singing and you can almost believe that you have Chelsea Flower Show all to yourself were just as enchanting as last year and such a privilege to experience.

Like last year I concentrated on the details, the gardens have huge TV coverage and are photographed by the finest garden photographers in the world who love the big views......I love the details.

My first visit was on Sunday....gardens were still being finished, everyone was in hi-vis vests and there was much talk of which was going to be the garden of the show.
I escaped to the marquee and found stands still being built and trolleys of plants everywhere.

David Austin's beautiful roses, some surplus to requirements, some waiting to be unwrapped and put in place.

Ken Muir's Strawberry filled boots waiting for their place, I spoke to the guy whose boots they were. He thought it was fitting that they should end their useful life as a planter, I thought it was a lovely idea.

At about 5.00pm the sun came out...a miracle since the weather forecast had predicted rain only the day before. Lovely late afternoon light fell across the showground and all the photographers hurried to catch 'the light'

The perfect end to a perfect day.

Friday Flowers

Suddenly the world is green. So green it almost makes my eyes hurt, I am so used to a winter landscape of browns and greys.
Here are a few Euphorbia stems and a strand of Golden Hop from my garden, to brighten your Friday and bring even more green into your world.

I have my press pass for Chelsea Flower Show again this year.....so exciting! First visit is on Sunday, I'll let you know how I got on next week.

The Blue Weed and New China

Once upon a time, I came across a single plant in my garden with the bluest of blue flowers. It had furry stems and leaves with the faintest of spots and in my ignorance I thought it was a Pulmonaria or perhaps a very bright version of the herb Borage, so I let it be.
A mistake, a very big mistake, be warned this is an invasive weed, which I have learnt to my cost seeds itself everywhere and has a tap root that reaches Australia! But it does have the bluest of blue flowers.

The blue and white china is from a newly discovered shop called Tiger. Stumbled upon whilst shopping in Kingston upon Thames, at first glance it looked like a very up market pound shop so diverse was its stock. On closer inspection it revealed its Danish origins and had some very nice things at very reasonable prices. And something that I had been looking for....striped paper straws that look like barber's poles in bright colours. I shall be returning for another look.

Friday Flowers

I've been having fun playing with and photographing colour combinations, the grey bloom of figs in an old metal flan case, the tarnished metal of a silver plated pepper pot and the papery purple flushed petals of Anenomes with their almost metallic centres.

And then a "collection" in one of my favourite vintage baking tins.

It's a Bank Holiday here in England on Monday, so it's a long weekend, and the weather forecast looks as though the weather will be lovely.

Having cleaned last weekend.....I must admit it the house does look nice, and we can actually see the top of the dining table!I might venture out in the garden this weekend...reminding myself to take it slowly, it's so easy to get carried away and then my back will remind me I have overdone it in no uncertain terms.
