Friday Flowers

Well here it is..... my christmas wreath complete with hyacinths! I shall be interested to see how it looks when they flower, hopefully in time for Christmas.....I'll keep you posted.

We all had a fabulous time at the Martin and the Magpie Christmas workshop, the interior of the shop is inspiration enough but then Martin showed us the basics of wreath making on a wire frame, a table centrepiece with candle ( I'm definately going to make one of these) and a swag for the mantlepiece or stairs based on a length of rope!

We were then encouraged to have a go ourselves.....it was so lovely having huge amounts of greenery to play with, and to use anything we wanted, hence the hyacinths and dried hydrangeas. As you can see we were all concentrating like mad and everyone went home with something unique and fabulous.

Friday Flowers and Cutlery

Lately whilst treasure seeking at Antique Fairs and Fleamarkets I've been attracted to those stalls selling antique and vintage cutlery. I always make a bee line to the boxes with single items......no boxed matching sets for me! I like to buy a single set of knife, fork and spoon though knives are hardest to match often with bone handles, and all are EPNS or silver plated and have a nicely tarnished patina......and no I don't intend to do lots of silver polishing!

But it's all the different styles, shapes and sizes that are so interesting, the Victorian and Edwardian households must have had mountains of cutlery. There was what we are used to today, knife, fork, spoon and perhaps a soup spoon, but when did you last use a fish knife and fork (except in a restaurant) ? There are sardine knives and forks (the same as a fish set but smaller) and special serving implements that go with them, dessert knives, forks and spoons, fancy cake servers, spoons for pickles,jams, mustard and sugar, the list is endless. And no Stainless Steel, no wonder they needed servants if only to keep all the cutlery polished!

And because it's Friday Flowers I wanted to share this beautiful rose, It's name is Piano and it has the faintest most lovely scent.

It's blue and white time again!

I love blue and white china, and have a small collection that I added to at my local fleamarket last Tuesday. I had already bought some prepared hyacinth bulbs and was looking for some suitable containers.

I came up trumps at one stall, I was delighted with the bowl for £1.00 only to be told it came with two saucers and a plate for the same price.....result!
The gorgeous mug that has a chip that only I can see was £2.00, and my lovely friend Michelle lent me her favourite jug knowing that I wanted blue and white china for some photographs. Thanks Michelle.
I'll let you in to a secret......the check fabric is tea towels, £2.99 for 3, and the beautiful wallpaper, a sheet of wrapping paper......and they say the camera never lies!

I've more bulbs to plant over the next few days, hopefully they'll be in bloom for Christmas if not they are something to look forward to at the beginning of 2013........doesn't time fly?

Friday Flowers.......Easter in November!

No you are not going mad! Yes they are Easter eggs and spring flowers and we haven't even had Christmas yet.
Such is the life of someone who is trying to be a professional photographer. Magazines work a long time in advance and what they are looking for at the moment is Spring, hence it is Easter in my house at the moment. Not that I'm complaining........there is chocolate!!

Normal seasons will be resumed as soon as possible.

Friday Flowers

For someone who doesn't like Halloween, I seem to like taking photographs of Pumpkins and ornamental squash! These were amazing, I love their stripes and lumps and bumps.

And in case you are wondering where the flowers are, it being Friday Flowers......those little spiky balls are Ivy flowers in bud.

And in the picture below Heleniums are nestled between the Squash.

I hope you all had a scary Halloween, and those of you in America weren't badly affected by Hurricane Sandy and are safe and sound and even managed a bit of trick or treating!
