Tuesday is my treasure hunting day, simply because this seems to be the day when my favourite Antique Fairs are held. This Tuesday saw me at Sandown Park Racecourse, not an early start for this one, 11 a.m. very civilized!
I found some nice small pieces for my Etsy shop.....yes I know I've been neglecting you dreadfully, soon I'll be listing new things I promise! And then I came across what must have been a house clearance stall. I found 4 silverplated tablespoons for £2.00. 2 blue and cream linen tea towels for £1.00 each. And a cream jug.
This cream jug.
Embossed with Ferns and Dog Roses, with a Gothic band around the bottom, two holes in the rim near the handle and a mark on the bottom that made no sense to me whatsoever.
Half an hour on the internet and I had found out quite a lot about it.
The design was registered on September 6th 1860, it was made by William Brownfield between 1871 and 1873 in the North Staffordshire Potteries. The holes in the rim would have held the hinges of a pewter lid.
Yes it has a small chip on the rim, its lid is missing.......but I think it's beautiful......about 140 years old and I paid the princely sum of £4.00, my find of the day!!
I hope you all find treasure of some kind this weekend, I'm off to attend another of my Sister's photography workshops.........so much to learn....but learn something I will, I always do!!
